Happy birthday! Not really, but we should celebrate a new Chet Faker joint (well, if it is your birthday, then congrats). Our favorite bearded friend behind jazz singles and the critically acclaimed album, Built on Glass, just shared a new one joining his friend Marcus Marr. It's really just two scraggly, bearded men behind an ensemble of instruments.
As most have begun to expect, Chet is exercising his right to be strange and experimental. You'll notice how his progression has gone from less risky to extremely risky, but still fantastic. This one is filled with strings, pianos, drums, and pretty much any other noise you can think of, along with some backing vocals from Marr. "Birthday Card" is not only great to relax to, but it's also one of those songs where you sit back and think critically about just what is going on. Synths crash, drums hit, pianos stir, the track is packed with our favorite jazz riffing styles, and this is a duo I hope to see more of.
Luckily for me, this is only the first single off of their forthcoming Work EP, out December 4 via Detail Records. Check it out below, and add another reason to be excited for Friday to your checklist.
