The year is 2069, Virgin has succeeded in getting their Space X ship into space, and commercial galactic voyages are the norm. People still post the same shitty selfies during their brunch, but the backdrop is of the moon as they oribt between it and earth. Cruise ship dance parties like Jam Cruise and Holy Ship have now been replaced by Space Jams, yes – SFX trademarked this term – someone from the future came back to sue me while I wrote this. Father Garry of Holy SHip has since stepped down and there is a new captain steering you through space, and his name is Freddy Todd.
He steps up to the decks as the ship accelerates towards space, “Hello – This is your space Captain Freddy Todd and I would like to play you some swanky tunes – this one is called “Homework Did.” I really hope you enjoy it.’” Bass explodes from the speakers and frenetic synths and vocal samples pepper the beat creating a futuristic sound that mixes acid house and future bass with a sprinkle of space DMT. Aliens and humans writhe about, their slimy tentacles and bionic bodies mashing together as Freddy Todd gets the crowd hyped.
Now rewind 54 years prior and you would be surprised to find that Freddy Todd is no space cadet yet but is still producing salacious future sounds. This west coast producer is childhood friends with GRiZ and you can hear the soulful influence and touches of Detroit hip-hop in his productions. Homework Did is Freddy’s first single of his Khrysos EP, which is out later via GRiZ's All Good Records.
