Amsterdam-based singer/songwriter OIJ is relatively new to the scene, having only created his first bit of music at the end of 2014. What he lacks in time he makes up in talent, and in great abundance. His sound is a well groomed blend of synth-pop and electro-indie, channeling notes of Miike Snow meets Panama Wedding bound by the haunting electro stylings of The XX.
His first single “Blinded,” was released earlier in June and is already making great waves on Spotify’s global charts. It sound is rich with a darker dissonance that allows the song to brood with a robust persona that embodies being blinded by the light of the nightlife. Accompanying the single is an abstract music video that seems to pull influence from Haruiko Kawaguchi’s vacuum sealed couples photo project, with tinges of Enter The Void. Check it out below and keep your eyes out for OIJ’s debut EP, which is expected later this year.
