I felt compelled to draw when I listened to East India Youth's remix of "See Through," because I heard it that way, strokes of sound circling into one single image… I ended up with an eye. The movements of my pen mimicked the modern, industrial and edgy synths that define his remix of London composer and artist Sasha Siem, released on a remix EP of the original track.
Somehow in the pitch black imagery that this one evokes the rising London producer retains the whimsical, deep avant-garde sound that Siem infused her debut LP Most Of The Boys with. The composer herself is a fascinating character, with classical roots comparable to Bjork's jazz ones and throws us back to that mid-90's period when "weird" had more intelligence behind it. Out June 30th in the States, Most Of The Boys is expected to be nostalgic in more ways than one.
