California may be going through a drought, but the rap world is going through a similar situation. Only instead of water, it's boom-bap. Without sounding like a broken record playing yesterday's empty promises, the sound encapsulated that once represented the East Coast's energy and versatility has become a ghost of its former self. While this might be seen as a negative, it allows for less new jacks clogging up the scene. Those who are in this subgenre seldom do it for the fame, but rather because they have something that needs to be said. One of those rhymers is New York's very own Saga.

A free flowing lyrical monster, Saga isn't the type of dude that would dumb down his sound to double his dollars. He's come through with a fresh take on a classic sound that East Coast fiends will be drawn to and it's evident on every rhyme he writes. His latest visual effort, "Eye," captures the grittiness and mental anguish of having too many things on your mind. Visually, it sticks with the subject matter by keeping things direct and allows us to get an in depth understanding of what Saga's all about.
As a bonus, check out the rest of Saga's From Out of the Shadows down below. Producer legend Marco Polo is serving up most of the production, so you're in good hands. While the tape slaps from front to back, we have to give it to the self-produced banger "The Strong" and the Roc Marciano assisted "City Streets" as a couple of the highlights.
