Maya Jane Coles has kept very busy since her debut album, Comfort, came out two years ago. She's done a collaborative EP with GAPS, a few handfuls of remixes and assorted releases, and of course, toured constantly. Just last week, she announced a debut LP from her bass-centric Nocturnal Sunshine project, and shared the lead track, "Take Me There." Now she's given us a remix of Sam Smith's "Lay Me Down" basically feels like a victory lap.
While it's not something that would necessarily come to mind, Maya and Sam Smith are a great combination. She takes away all of the song's epic grandeur, instead looping some of its more subdued lines that fit Coles' aesthetic. The result is a match made in heaven, a great producer and a great voice coming together.
