An 'old soul' is defined as an young individual who is wiser beyond their years in spirit due to retained knowledge and experience from past incarnations. Although I may have been referred as an old soul in the past , I believe that few people embody this ideal better than Leon Bridges out of Fort Worth, Texas. This is 25 year old isn't just another soul revivalist attempting to make music reminiscent of a past generation. Leon is a musician whose demeanor, bodily gestures, appearance, and sound are genuinely molded by the legendary soul artist of the 50's and 60s (Sam Cooke and Al Green come to mind) and whose music is even of the same caliber of his influences, sounding more of a contemporary to these artist rather than an skilled emulator. it wouldn't far fetched for an uniformed listener to believe a track to be from that period thanks to the precise nostalgic sound.
Leon recently caught the eye of Columbia Records and is now hard at work recording his debut LP which is set to be out by the early summer. Today he has decided to release one of the singles from the album entitled "Lisa Sawyer", which is a soulful ballad that tells the moving story his mother's life. The dreamy track contains a huge amount of nostalgia that is achieved through a vintage recording quality, doo-wop background singers, soft organ keys and some smooth saxophone play. Check out the single below and make sure to keep your eyes out for Leon Bridge's debut project when it is released in the summertime!
