I know that the wait for the highly anticipated releases of SAVEMONEY members Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensa has been tedious, but fortunately two other members of the Chicago hip-hop collective have stepped up to the plate and have hit a home run with their debut album. Kami De Chukwu and Joey Purp, using the moniker Leather Corduroys, have released Season—the full-length follow up to their EP Porno Music Volume Too.

Right off the bat, the eccentric hip-hop duo ring in a hit, assisted by SAVEMONEY heavy hitter Chance the Rapper, with the firmamental “I Told You So”. The pair juxtaposes “I Told You So” with drill infused banger “Adios” and the techno-funk “In Da Club”. That said, Season boasts a catalog of genre blending tracks with each individual track’s instrumental highlighting a certain sound and tone. Purp and Chukwu match the dynamic nature of the album’s instrumentals, provided mostly by artist/producer Knox Fortune, with the intonation of their lyrical deliveries and cadences. Combined all these elements create for one of the most atypical hip-hop releases in recent time.

Season proves that the SAVEMONEY well of talent is not dry after the immense success of Mensa and Chance. Don’t sleep on this release because Leather Corduroys has produced a mixtape that is up there with some of the best Chicago releases of this year such as Saba’s Comfort Zone and Mick Jenkin’s The Water[s].
