Eau Claire asserted herself in a big way in 2014 with remixes of throwbacks, like Stevie Wonder's "Uptight" and MIke Posner's "Cooler Than Me." The Washington, D.C.-based producer finishes off her year with another insanely catchy nu-disco rework, this time of MIA's classic jam "Paper Planes."
Eau Claire builds into the chorus with MIA's instantly recognizable laugh and bouncy, playful synthesizer riffs that seem to ricochet and build off one another, as a steady beat claps in the background. The melody gets catchier (if that's even possible) when MIA spits her signature line, "All I wanna do is… and take your money," Eau Claire adds even more synth layers before the second chorus then house vibes trickle in before the grand finale. She closes out with sampled repetition of the signature line, neatly wrapping up this poppy, upbeat nu-disco remix.
Once again, Eau Claire shows us how to perfectly match nu-disco production with a song's core and intention.
