Travis Stewart has spent the past two years on his most ambitious Machinedrum releases thus far, in an ongoing exploration of the imaginary "Vapor City." Starting with last year's incredible juke / IDM conglomerate, Vapor City, he followed with a few affiliated EPs, and is now set to release the finale, Vapor City Archives. To prepare for this last release, he's teamed up with director Collin Palmer for a short film, previewing these final glimpses into Stewart's dreamworld.
The video is a perfect accompaniment to Machinedrum's music: urban, beautiful, and evasively ethereal. As snippets of Vapor City Archives' tracks bleed into and out of one another, the camera follows a woman wandering through a city, remaining faceless as she ponders the parks, architecture, and clubs. Sonically, the previews we're given here take us right back to what made the original Vapor City so great, Stewart masterfully combining footwork's sweat-inducing tempos with IDM's alien beauty. Vapor City Archives is out Nov. 17 via Ninja Tune.
