Chicago's footwork scene has been burgeoning of late thanks to the musical contributions of the late and great DJ Rashad, and the rest of his forward-thinking TEKLIFE crew of producers and dancers. Although many people may be contemplating the future of the movement now that the de-facto leader & spokesperson has passed away, the group's response seems to be clear: keep pushing things forward. The group still continues to build on and take advantage of the scene's increasing profile of the scene with each release, now taking these underground sounds and movements with them on large-scale tours around the world.
One of the younger members of the TEKLIFE collective, DJ Manny has recently put out three track EP on DJ PBDY's rising label TAR Records titled Trackaholic Vol.1. Each track is a footwork rework of a popular (or once popular) hip-hop or R&B track, turning them into frenetic dance anthems worthy of bodily motion. The standout track is the footwork edit of Vic Mensa's single "Down on my luck", where he converts the Chi-town native's track into a high octane club banger.
