New Orleans is known for it’s big band sound, jazz music and rhythm & blues. Despite all conventional classification of Bayou music, producer Shallou has risen out of the bayou with a haunting and enchanting eclectic sound. He has made a signature sound all his own that is minimalistic in orchestration like Ta-Ku and distorted in vocal harmony like SBTRKT. His latest single takes it’s name from the Iceland capital “Reykjavik.” Deep distorted vocals utter words of longing and desire, “Wait for you. Come back for you. In the dark.” Marimbas, white noise, fluttering drones and other simple instrumentation ties the whole production together giving it the chilling longing that the song embodies. As the weather turns colder and our hearts long for warm companions, Shallou is a perfect mate to cuddle up with next to the fire.
