When you press play on Romare's newest track, "Roots," you'll instantly know that you aren't dealing with a typical dance producer. The single, out Dec. 2 on Ninja Tune, begins with what sounds like a croaking bullfrog; one imagines Romare out among the lily pads with a recorder, soaking up foley sounds for his organically-minded house music. "Roots" eventually leaves the pond and heads for the dance floor, with vocal samples and a variety of percussive sounds preparing you for a piano-led roof-raiser. The change from beginning to end is dramatic, but you'll hardly notice it; Romare's transitions are subtle and logical, even when covering multiple environments on one track.
Romare's Roots 12" will drop next month, and will also feature the track "Pusherman." Stream "Roots" and pre-order the single below.
