There are times when you need a break from your nine to five hustle, or in need of something smooth. So what do you do? You reach for that glass of wine or that unlit Black & Mild, or maybe you reach for something a little more herbal. This is for when you get home and you are trying to unwind and recline. This is for when you need to close your eyes and drift. We are just your milkmen and we're here to make a delivery. This is your Daily 2% – Chilled and Ready to Serve, so lay back and chill…
Today's delivery is brought to you by Nick Hakim, the East Coast singer-songwriter that has me mesmerized beyond belief. I selfishly want to keep Nick my little secret, but that wouldn’t be fair—no, that would be criminal—so, here you go, weep in this beauty.
“I Don’t Know” is the lead track from his sophomore EP Where Will You Go Pt. 2, which came out last month via his own label, Earseed Records. Whether Nick’s music is so melancholic it’s beautiful…or so beautiful it’s melancholic, all I know is that his music is meant to be heard and for people to be moved by it deeply. There are plenty of indie musicians out there, but I was particularly struck by Nick’s music because of how potently loaded it is with sincere emotions and a kind of raw, soulful energy. I believe music is the most powerful when it’s inexplicable, yet intimate, and Nick naturally achieves this. Drift away as Nick’s heartwarming voice gently croons to slow drum patterns, delicate piano, and stirring guitar.
