"I ain't raise you to hold grudges…"

An intro to any project can be extremely important. Especially if the majority of people hearing it are new to your stuff. It lays the foundation for what people think when they hear your name. It establishes the emotional direction, the overall tone, and the underlying "plot" of the project. Chaz French blew me away with his introduction track, hinting at just how deep his new project Happy Belated reaches within the human soul.

With acts like GoldLink taking a new hold on the cross-section of progressive electronic and hip-hop, French holds a potential avenue to blow up. Being a DMV native, the scene has gained a lot of attention, especially in the hip-hop realm. However, don't pass this off as standard hip-hop. Chaz dips into mellow beats, emotional tracks, and even a bit of rock hop in "Erryday Stuntin'". For a beginning project, Happy Belated shows a lot of variety as well as a healthy fluctuation between vocal affliction and emotional portrayal.

Take a listen to Chaz French's Happy Belated now, and stay tuned for more in the future. No doubt we will be hearing from him again.
