Hayden James has put a new age touch on Odesza's "Say My Name." The Australian, Future Classic-signed producer made internet waves with his funky jam "Permission to Love" in 2013 and is on the cusp of completing and releasing his second EP. He is also supporting Odesza on their mostly sold out American tour this fall.
James keeps his tourmates' melody intact, mainly tweaking the bass and drums in Odesza's original. The producer's most notable addition is bongo drums, which act as a steady backbeat until the chorus' vocals and synthesizer riffs lead into a new age, -like, bass drop. Odesza's piano melody drops back in, weaving between bass, chopped vocals and, you guessed it, more bongo drums. Where Odesza's original acts as an emotional anthem, Hayden James' version turns into more a late night dance floor catalyst.
