Crater is a young band out of Seattle, crafting pop-oriented music out of subtly experimental sounds. Their song from earlier this year, "Crater Head" opens with a Black Moth Super Rainbow-esque keyboard riff before the female lead vocals take over (band members' names are currently AWOL for the general public). "Crater Head" shows off the band's skill in making a song that is both unique and infectious.
Now, "Crater Head" has been remixed by another Seattle-based up-and-comer, DJAO. He completely removes the song's rock-based structure, as bits and fragments of vocals float serenely on a bed of ethereal ambience, eventually morphing into a machine-like vocal loop. It's a strange remix, but I like how DJAO has taken the track and really made it his own. DJAO has a self-titled album coming out October 28 via Dropping Gems. In the meantime, you can catch Crater on tour, head on over to the band's site for dates as well as a free download of "Crater Head."
