Somewhere along the way, Tokimonsta underwent a metamorphosis: the former Brainfeeder producer has formed her own label, Young Art, which will release her upcoming "mini-album" Desiderium on September 23. With this change also comes a substantial change in sound, Toki trading her placid hip-hop sounds for a much more pop-oriented approach. So far the results are all one could ask for. She's already shared "Steal My Attention" and the epic R&B jam "Realla," and now you can hear "Drive," with vocals contributed by Arama.
"Drive" reminds me a lot of Disclosure, there's a nice balance between Arama's soulful vocals and Tokimonsta's crisp, limber production. All three sneak peaks from Desiderium have demonstrated her ability to craft fully-formed, original pop songs. With this revelation there's no telling what Tokimonsta will do in the future. Desiderium could be a big turning point.
