Soon to be out on his Mabel EP, Lil Silva serenely sets the mood with this wonderful track full of effervescent beat, harmony and synth. His signature ethereal voice echoes, hums, and interrupts itself on this homage to the kind of love we all want, the kind that “don’t fade away.”
If you’re a fan of Sampha or SBTRKT, I suggest you give Lil Silva your attention, as he’s in many ways the lovechild of both. His last EP, Distance, carried one of my favorite tracks of 2013, “No Doubt” ft. Rose Lowe, and hearing this taste of Mabel, I’m pretty sure I’ll end up with a few contenders for my 2014 favorites list. Mabel is set to make its debut off the Good Years/ True Panther label on August 4. If this first release is indication of what’s to come on the EP, Mabel should be a hauntingly sweet and sophisticated way to cap off the summer.
