Back at the end of April, UK electronic rap dons Murkage released their highly anticipated debut album Of Mystics & Misfits to a rapturous reception. Indeed, the eleven track album impressed me so much, not only did I score it big in my review, I also heralded it as one of the most important records to emerge from the UK urban scene in recent years. One of my own personal highlights from the album was a track entitled "Manifesto", which featured French emcee Nekfeu, who dropped a dope verse onto the track, which already had one of the most powerful hooks I've heard all year.
Today we have a remix of "Manifesto", done by none other than the Murkage drummer Felix Dickinson, who goes under the moniker Amat Amas Amo. The beat wizard, whose exceptionally brilliant drumming makes for one of the standout moments of the Murkage live show, has stripped down the grimey original beat, and flipped it into a trapped up banger, with hard hitting kicks and airy synths creating a real dark vibe.
Alongside the AAA remix, long term Murkage friend Rain City Riot, hailing from Berlin, Germany. The German, who's released tracks on labels such as Defected & Toolroom, adds his own house-tinged touch to the original, with some real funky synth lines over the top of some real pumping drums.
