The emergence of 22-year old American producer Audien has been a nice story over the past 18 months. With steady releases on Anjunabeats and Zouk Recordings, he’s furthered the genre-defying area between trance and house, while churning out a stream of club remixes for the who’s who of radio friendly artists. Whether it’s the euphoric melody on “Iris” or twisting Bastille's indie rock smash “Pompeii” into a festival win, Audien has been able to deliver crisp production and big sound.
His latest output, originally composed for leading headphone & wireless speaker brand, 808 Audio, comes as a free download to fans with the track “Hex”. Wasting no time dropping into thick electro house riffs, the track draws on a familiar formula of moody breakdowns that lift into big-room progressive. The wobbles and lasers still make another appearance later in the track, layering into the melody while careful not to overpower it. In a somewhat bizarre twist into pop culture, the song is featured on the latest LVCVA Vegas Season campaign promotional ad, with gritty electro superimposed with a spray-tanned Wayne Newton. Vegas tourism aside, don’t sleep on Audien – if you’re not able to see him perform this festival season, it’s impossible to miss his sound played out.
