Whenever I hear that the UK's prodigal beatsmith, Jamie xx, has released a new track, I sprint to my laptop in a hurry to listen to what kind of magic he has conjured up this time around. Almost every single time, we are gifted with a truly great, memorable track, and this week is no different.
Initially premiered via Radio 1 on the James Blake residency a week or so ago, it was introduced as being called "Bloke" and by a producer called Simon Tallywhacker, and set the tone for the rest of his show. This week however, it's come to fruition that in fact, the track was "Girl, the b-side to his deep hit "Sleep Sound". Now we've finally been treated to a high quality stream, via a very basic video that allows you to follow each individual sound. With deep, rich bass lines that keep the track pumping along, and cleverly chopped and edited vocal samples, "Girl" is the kind of funked up, disco/house hybrid that will have festivals and dance floors all over the globe moving and shaking.
You can peep the simplistic visuals for "Girl" below, and be sure to keep an eye out for the full release of "Sleep Sound/Girl" on May 5th.
