MMW 2014: 5 festival favorites with Sampology [Interview]

Australian EDM artist Sampology gives us a quick run down of the 6 best things that he experienced at Miami Music Week this year, where he played the Sweat It Out! Party with Yolanda Be Cool, Cassian, Plastic Plates and What So Not. For MMW he premiered his tropicalia styled “Miami Sweat Mini Mix” and also recently released a stunning A/V remix music video of “Wedding Bells” by Cashmere Cat. His live AVDJ sets have garnered him nods from the likes of The New York Times and The Independent in the past and his more recent forays into electronic production will only continue to spread his name throughout the industry.

EM: So what were your major highlights from MMW this year?
S: I only had 3 days to do Miami this year, so I tried to pack in as much as possible whilst pushing through the jetlag from a 14 hr journey from Australia.

1. Cashmere Cat at the Hard Party – Grand Central

S: The whole night was awesome, packed with great acts! There was nothing fancy about Cashmere Cat’s set, and I don’t mean that at all in a bad way, because staying out in the front listening to his production and feeling that mammoth sound in my chest was enough for me.

2. Jon from Rufus De Sol’s Leg at the Sweat It Out Party – Electric Pickle

S: They’ve already taken over Australia and are in the middle of doing the same in North America. When I was standing in front of them at the Sweat It Out! Party I found it impossible not to notice Jon has this outrageous leg technique when he plays keys of lifting his legs up and sideways.

3. Slowroast Party at The Garret

S: After I played the Sweat It Out party, I bounced over to the Garret to check out Craze at the Slowroast party. He killed it, Ape Drums killed it and whoever the twerk team were that were dancing through the whole party, it was probably the best ass shaking I’ve ever seen.

4. Canblaster at the Bromance Party – Grand Central

S: Everyone on the night was pretty amazing; I’m a big Canplaster fan and was definitely impressed by his set. S-Tyle’s “Billboard” (Lido Remix) was a personal highlight of his set.

5. Eating sushi on Washington Ave

S: I saw Louis Theroux walk past… at least I’m 84% sure that it was him.
