Jay E fans rejoice! If you've had "Exhibit C" on repeat for the past three years, press pause to thank SXSW for Jay Electronica's most recent drop, "Better In Tune w/ The Infinite". It's the latest since his Notorious B.I.G homage, released just last week, and perhaps a sign that the usually elusive artist is that much closer to giving patient fans an entire album. Aside from new tracks, Jay's been making more public appearances as of late, including this year's SXSW where he was in attendance at the Watch The Throne show. After attending Southby, a fan tweeted the rapper suggesting he drop "Better In Tune" to which Jay obliged.
"Better In Tune w/ The Infinite" certainly sounds like Jay's been spending some quality time with higher beings as the track opens with contemplative musings from The Professor of The Wizard of Oz backed by dream-inducing piano chords and harmonic string instrumentals. Jay unleashes an arsenal of thoughts, marked by his signature style of delivery: confidence. LaTonya Givens' heartfelt vocals add to the track's spiritual tone, the sum of which sounds like a majestic prologue or epilogue to what we can only hope will be a finished Act II.
