ScHoolboy Q builds 'Oxymoron' momentum with "Blind THreats"

ScHooboy Q's Oxymoron is less than a week away now and he clearly intends to run hard through the finish line. After releasing "Break The Bank" and performing songs off the album a few days ago, he is offering up another glimpse into Oxymoron's sonics. His latest record is called "Blind THreats" and it enlists the help of Wu-Tang great Raekwon the chef. The song is quite dark, falling in line sonically with the majority of the tracks released to this point, and together the duo bring the grit we're accustomed to from both.

"Blind THreats" is produced by Lord Quest, and it's thematically right in ScHoolboy's wheelhouse: it is a first person portrayal of gangbanging and street politics. "Aim that, shoot that, pledge allegiance / Kill mine, kill yours, make it even," he raps in his signature sing-song, and from the sureness of his tone you get the sense he isn't bluffing. The beat is as menacing as its content, and it's production taps gently against your skull while its lyrics beat you into submission. ScHoolboy stays true to his sound, and such a quality is admirable in this age of reinvention. Raekwon delivers a stellar verse to complement Q's ("Get out the way or let the shotty dispense / Revenge killers who make the events iller, this is more realer / Snatch you right up out of the Benz / The Wu wheelers who huddle up, coupes knows the truth / You know the woopty-woop, solo or group I kill niggas") and it's hard not to feel like this could all be leading up to something big. Only time will tell. One can't help but get excited for the rest of the album, though. Hopefully it delivers in spades. After all, Top Dawg Entertainment has yet to disappoint.

Stream ScHoolboy Q's "Blind THreats" below, and go get his Interscope debut, Oxymoron, next Tuesday.
