When Abel Tesfaye came crashing onto the scene with his first mixtape House Of Balloons, it was clear from the offset that he was a talented kid. Bringing his own blend of R&B mixed with electronic tendencies, The Weeknd quickly shot into prominence when he was co-signed by fellow Canadian Drake, as well as appearing on his 2012 hit track "Crew Love". Since then, he re-released his mixtapes as The Trilogy, which saw them remastered for a full CD release, and last years breakout effort Kiss Land, which was warmly received from fans and critics alike.
The Toronto native turned 24 this weekend, and to celebrate, he released his own take on Beyonce's recent smash hit "Drunk I Love". In a week where we've seen the original instrumental get a Mike Dean touch up, as well as an added hot verse from none other than Kanye West, The Weeknd has delivered to us his own slice of the "Drunk In Love" pie. In typical Weeknd style, the re-made beat has deep 808's, whilst spacey synths cut through, and no Weeknd track would be complete without the perfectly pitched melodies that Abel is well known to produce. The lyrics are again what we've been well accustomed to with the young Canadian, with drug binges involving models, as well as the obligatory sex references that he carries off so well, and he even hints at a new album in the works.
