In the 2000’s Canada gave us some, well, pretty “eccentric” artists. We were graced with the likes of Nickleback, Avril Lavigne, and that Justin Bieber guy (thank god for him, right?) Now in the 2010’s the tables have shifted and the motherland of maple syrup has graced us with some phenomenal talent in the dance music category. Some notable acts include the live-remix trio Keys N Krates, Canadian Club creator Grandtheft, remix renegades Free N Losh. Joining the ranks of the Canadian elite is the young producer Kaytranada. Kaytranda has carved his way to stardom with his smooth lo-fi synth styling and eclectic vibes.

For his latest release Kaytranada has teamed up the chart topping brotherly duo Disclosure to remix “January.” This reworking is an official remix and will be featured on Disclosure’s remix album of Settle, set for release on December 17th. In this reworking Kay keeps Jamie Woon’s soothing vocals in tact and lays it on a bed of distorted keys and kick drums. Both chilling and entrancing “January” is a smooth blend of garage and future beats.
