Arcade Fire – "We Exist" (Night Drive Edit) [Download]

Since Arcade Fire released Reflektor, the praise has been unanimous, and rightfully so. “We Exist” is the second track from the release, sporting a walking bass line, hushed choruses, and flashbulb guitars that pop and die away. The spaciousness of the song is filled with orchestral flourishes and instrumental vamping.

Texas-based Night Drive, producers Rodney Connell and Brandon Duhon, focused on the opening of the original track and dug into the disco roots. Their edit has chugging synths, cowbells, and punchy snares. However, Night Drive never lets “We Exist” become a soft-lensed ABBA throwback. When the track is getting too sweet, they know just when to reintroduce the grit and soul of the original.

The balance is just right. All you have to do is turn it up.
