There’s much to get excited over when two of today’s most buzzing producers come together and collaborate on a project that reverts its sounds to a fresh batch of raw beats. Offering the ninth release on FunkinEven’s imprint, Apron—label head and L.A. producer Delroy Edwards dish out XX/X, a two-track audio lesson taking us back to the humble beginnings of techno and house.

Stream: FunkinEven X Delroy Edwards – XX

Starting with a booming funk, “XX” gets right to the point as the progression quickly unfolds to a jackin’ fun-house guided by the sounds that give the TR-303 its famous acid flex. Listening to this, there's no doubt both FunkinEven and Delroy Edwards had Chicago's movement of the late 80's in mind. Pausing for a quick breather in the middle of the track,  things get explicit (for a second or two) with some sensual vocal sampling that sets up the final thrust of toms, hi-hats, and kicks that release to a fiery ending.  With “X”,the tempo winds down as the acid  turns up to create an atmosphere of unnerving accents. Holding the suspense for the track's entirety, this will give us that acid overload that lasts for days.
