swelo – "This Step" (Feat. Jose Cotto)

We’re going to go out on a limb here and say we found your perfect Friday afternoon jam. There are a few pre-reqs to Friday soundtracks, but namely this: it has to be a song that will power you through the day and properly prep you for the weekend – but not to the point you can’t concentrate on the tasks at hand. Suffice it to say, electro-alt artist swelo’s song “This Step” is just that. It’s pleasantly up-tempo but not to the point that you’re going to fist-pump right out the door. (EDM is not safe on Friday afternoons for this very reason.)

Seconds into the song, we were sold by the soulful harmonies, staccato vocals and persistent beat – freckled by a smattering of digital pings a la The Postal Service circa 2003. Spoken verse adds texture to the track, balancing out the funktastic chorus with a more emotive call to action. The song will warm the soul and lift your spirits. And that’s probably because the sole mission of the New Orleans-based musician is to bring boogie to the human race. A mantra we can get on board with. Stream the song below and if you like what you hear, you can purchase the full album Escalator Music here.
