While Robosonic may not be the most familiar name to all those listening at home, chances are you’ve heard the German duo’s productions across more dancefloors than you think. From the huge success of “The Edge” which famously samples Dr. Dre’s “The Next Episode”, to the Beatport chart domination of tracks like “Worst Love” and “La Fique”, the pair are starting to pull in a reputation that balances deep groove and party energy. No release demonstrates this better than their latest collaboration with UK-based Stefano Ritteri, “She Was On My Mind”, out on the consistently strong Off Recordings today.
The song’s rhythm is shaped by looping tribal drums and an eerie bass twang, and the addition of sultry, echoed vocals may be a familiar formula to deep house heads. Still, the back and forth dialogue between man and piano sets a soulful mood for the breakdown. Chorus turns into full gospel, and what was once a summer chillout tune drops into a downright haunting club smasher. Don’t be surprised to hear this one to close out a lengthy set, it’s got the perfect tone to close the after hours atmosphere through a full-on party frenzy.
