It speaks volumes of an artist when a release of theirs gets featured in the Beatport "banner." It's unspoken that, well, when a record is featured there, you should be listening to it. That's where I found Animal Picnic's latest EP, Personal Affair, that came out today on Sleazy Deep records. And aside from the awesomely Miami Vice style album artwork, the tracks on the EP kept me very intrigued and listening for more. The 6-track EP features productions that are retro-influenced, but each in a different way. You've got "I Want to Get you Alone," which has summery instrumentals and '70s soul vocals a la Marvin Gaye, "Synthetic Poem," which pulls '80s synths together with Whitney Houston inspired vocals, and deeper remixes from G.L.O.C.K. and Fabry Pandolfo. Personal Affair is a sign that this Ibiza-based duo is on their way to taking their multifaceted outlook on music to some great places in the future.
