While Geographer have become generally known for their electronic-based indie style, their versatility is far from one dimensional. In the midst of working on new material to see the light of day later this year, the San Francisco based group have recorded a standout remake of Arthur Russell’s “This Is How We Walk On The Moon” that showcases their ability to base their sound on live instrumentation in a way that highlights a relaxed feel.

While the original Arthur Russell song is notable for its simplistic structure, composed of a bongo based beat, soft strings and venturing horn play, Geographer’s version peaks at an exploring sax line and wholesome synth effects. The reworking can be broken down into two parts with the use of a piano-based break; a climbing intro that uses a straightforward drumbeat to move forward and a spiking section with a full-throttled sound.
