Sometimes he is Deejay Earl and sometimes he is DJ Earl, but whatever he is called, there is no doubt that this 22-year-old from the windy city, Chicago, has serious talent and he has hit it out the park again with another superb EP released by Chicago-based Footwork Frenzy.
DJ Earl's sound is more muted and restrained than his peers at Teklife, hence the name of the EP, "Ambient". It draws influences from all over, with a soulful woman's voice to start with on "I Feel It". He continues his strong start of "I Feel It" with a faster-paced, heavily percussioned beat, "I Need You". Following on from this is his heavily-house-synthed and perhaps highlight of the EP, "Alive N Well". Ironically, the EP's title track, "Ambient", is anything but, and is the most upbeat, heaviest number on the EP, showing that Earl has a sense of humor as well as serious talent.
