Growing up, you're told not to put all your eggs in one basket, but it's hard not to hear Rapsody and want to put hip-hop's fate solely in her hands. And that's not a half-assed claim, I'll put all my eggs on it.
One of 9th Wonder's Jamla Records militants—he's got plenty of secret weapons in his arsenal—Rapsody has got every quality an emcee needs on paper. Distinguishable style, bonafide lyrics, a twang from hip-hop's second Golden Era, and something too-often rare, integrity. Partnered with Khrysis, from The Justus League, she drops another single that shows off her familiar laid-back sermonizing. Fall asleep during her congregation of smooth lines, though, and she'll make your suffering everlasting.
Fortunately for a growing cult of Rapsody followers, "Everlasting" isn't a standalone track. It's the lead single to her second album She Got Game, dropping in the summertime. If the rest of the album is as good as The Idea of Beautiful, or this frolicking track, expect your warm months to play out more like a bohemian rapsody.
