Grab hold of something. This is one of those things that makes you sad in ways you don't have words for yet. The second single off of Houses's upcoming LP A Quiet Darkness, "Beginnings" plays like the inner monologue of someone calmly facing down the end of all existence.
Like fellow midwesterners Low, Chicago's Houses layer male/female harmonies over enormous, steady beats. An eerie music box melody twinkles in the background throughout the song, lending an eerie air of nostalgia to the otherwise traditional arrangement. The single-take video heightens the track with slow-motion imagery of a summer road trip lodged deep in failing memory.
