The darker season may tend to draw our eyes to more natural sights — evergreens, snow, the moon — but there's no rule against waxing poetic about the artificial ornaments on our wintry landscapes. On single "Halogen Moon," Melbourne-based songwriter James Wallace (who sings under the seasonally appropriate moniker Wintercoats) yearns for brighter lights under the inadequate glow of a halogen lamp. We all could use a little more light around the solstice — and luckily, this song's want for brightness shines pretty brightly in itself. Low strings sway under bell arpeggios and Wallace's wistful vocals to cast a hopeful, if melancholy, mood.
"Halogen Moon" is the first official cut from Wintercoats' upcoming Heartful EP, due out from Mistletone/Cascine in February 2013.
