The Bristol based A Sagittariun hits a well-oiled punch with his new release Carina. Hot off the heels of the release of The Circle Comes Somewhere, this 4 track E.P. is a varied compilation of afrobeat, dub, jazz, Detroit flavor with a sprinkle of British electronica. All together it makes for a quite different sound from what the masses are attuned to. For some this may not be the easiest listen as the songs differ greatly in tempo and timbre. However sequential consistency aside, the production prowess shows through. Evoking a chilled vibe with old world techno undertones, Carina is a great departure from the bass heavy club music that is being churned out a dime a dozen today.
Released on the Elastic Dreams Label, of which A Sagittariun is a founder, the E.P’s shining accolades should be awarded to a remix of the namesake single from October, of who A Sagittariun shares his Bristol base. No stranger to the game, October shows his talent with flying colours here, producing a well thought out, classic piece of house music that boasts a strong analog vibe.
A man of little publicity, A Sagittariun does an excellent job at keeping anonymous, an attribute, which carries over to his work as a producer. There is something to be said for those who share their talent for the greater good.
