Sene has dropped the visuals to “Backboards”, which features fellow rapper and comrade Blu. “Backboards” is one of the standout tracks off his most recent album Brooklynknight. As we’d expect from the Plug Research signee, the video oozes mad creativity. If you recognise the sample but can’t quite place it, it is taken from legendary rock band Extreme’s hit song “Rest In Peace”.
The chemistry between Sene and Blu is always off the chain and at times they almost mirror one another. Lyrically, Sene is one of those artists whose words hit me hard and get the cogs and wheels upstairs turning. In this song, he paints such a vivid picture of his surroundings and the daily choices he has had to make in order to elevate. “They say “Collab or Die”/ I was never for procedure/ How the f*ck can someone climb by reaching underneath them…” An epic line. My favourite line of the year.
