It's been awhile since I came across a new indie band that reminds me of my old music tastes. Van Damsel is a quartet from Canada with a style that touches upon punk and mainstream. Being an indie band, describing them like that seems to be an oxymoron, but it's true. They are influenced by bands such as Bloc Party, The Strokes, Kings of Leon, and The Killers, just name a few. Already, you can get a good sense of what type of tunes they crank out and the overarching mood they are trying to achieve. I am a fan of a majority of their influences, so naturally I became a fan of Van Damsel after listening to their track "Percy's Mount".
Opening with pure percussion that is shortly joined by a bass and sexy guitar riff, I immediately came to the conclusion that I must keep close tabs on Van Damsel. The vocalist has a great voice that might reminds you of punk rock singer's back in the 2000s. Every aspect of the song fits into place, making the track a very enjoyable, easy-listening. It's definitely a good late-day, mood-lifter when you finally bust through the last leg of a hard day's work.
