I'll admit, I'm more of a retro gamer than anything. I don't own an Xbox 360 or a PS3. I do own a Wii, but it's just a $200 white Netflix machine. "What the hell does this have to do with anything?", you may ask. The fact that I like older games relates to the style of Kubbi, who has a unique style of using these 8-bit and 16-bit sounds that you can frequently hear from old console games. Kubbi is from Norway and makes tracks like "Motivation" in his free time. He admits that he finds his own work boring and uninteresting, but I beg to differ. I've only come across a few producers with Kubbi's style, and I'm glad I found another.
"Motivation" will throw you into a videogame world in the first several seconds of the song. But then it transports you back into the real world and into the dance floor. It's like being in a videogame dance floor, if you can imagine that. His creative style really grew on me when I listened to his other tunes. There isn't too much to say about "Motivation," other than that it is quirky, catchy, and unique.
It makes me want to go dust of my old NES and play Duck Hunt.
