If you haven't noticed EARMILK's hip hop coverage is, for a lack of a better term, more or less a sausage fest. With that said, it's always great to hear and receive submissions from female emcees. It's no secret than even in 2012 women are disproportionately underrepresented in the world of hip hop. However, up and coming femcee Gita is making the necessary moves to ensure her voice is heard within the male-dominated genre.
In additon to being featured in MISHKA's Spring 2012 Lookbook, the NYC transplant (by way of Oakland, California) released some creative visuals for her DJ Two Stacks (the same producer of Kreayshawn's "Gucci Gucci") produced track "Hood Rich" earlier in the year. If you're like me the opening thirty seconds of the video will likely leave you a little dumbfounded (that is unless you know Japanese). However, despite the initial language barrier the vid is ripe with some trippy visuals.
While the vid has been floating around the internet since January, I'm pretty sure there's a host of listeners who've yet to hear some bars from Gita and that fact alone warrants the posting of this video. Check it out and look out for a new single from Gita which will be featured on Fool's Gold Record's highly anticipated hip hop compilation Loosies.
