Dusky – Flo Jam [EP]

London duo Dusky (Alfie Granger-Howell and Nick Harriman) is making a big impression with their latest on Dogmatik Records. The UK label has brought you many releases from house heavyweights such as Maya Jane Coles, but Dusky's Flo Jam EP is easily poised to be their biggest yet. It's been receiving immense support from big name DJs and producers such as Loefah, Boddika, Mosca, Pete Tong and Disclosure. It's easy to see why: Dusky immediately grabs you with a metric ton of undistilled old school-house and garage vibes, and doesn't let go until the end.

The titular "Flo Jam" is certain to get stuck in your head and command it to move your body. The infectious Aaliyah sample and an equally catchy, levitating melody might seem almost minimal on paper, but it creates something much larger than the sum of its parts. "Every Day" channels a slick garage sensibility while "Mystics" revisits the EP's essence with a classic house build and release. "Numerical" closes out with a growling, whale call drone and bathysphere bass that's destined to be a peak hour floor mover. Overall every track is a winner on this one. Cop the vinyl release on May 29 and the digital in June. Also look out for their release on Simple Records in May, and a package of remixes by Midland, Synkro, Jozif, and others on Anjunadeep, the label home to their previous releases.
