In a country where we hear the same recycled synths, wobbles and growls repeatedly, it is only natural to want to explore other types of music. In this case I decided to look to the far East. After falling passionately in love with Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's graphically striking and catchy music, I had to dig deeper and find out who was behind the masterful compositions of these pieces.
I learned later that Yasutaka Nakata, who is 1/2 of Capsule, is responsible for these unique and far east electronic sounds. The composer, based out of Kanazawa, Japan, owns his own record label called Contemode. He forms Capsule with female vocalist Toshiko Koshijima and they lead the J Electro Movement in Japan with lots of overlayed synthesizers onto Toshiko's voice. The unique sound these two put together is truly something you've never heard before. Picture your Gameboy Color with some big bass drums and electro growls, that's kind of what it sounds like.
This album carries many different tracks such as my favorite of the LP, "Transparent," which is softer, but gives you that blissful slow dance feel. Just think of Yasutaka Nakata as Japan's Skrillex and Toshiko Koshijima as Sofi. Truly a dream team, get over the language barrier.
Yasutaka Nakata also helped compose Perfume's last album that dropped on the 6th out here in the US and also is currently helping Kyary Pamyu Pamyu compose her Debut album releasing May 23rd.
