2012 is opening up brightly with skillfully mastered tracks emerging from many of our favorite musicians. "Yesterday" comes from the beatwork of Eric Lau, one of London's finest producers, off his upcoming EP entitled The Mission. The seven-track album is a collaborative effort between the producer and Detroit's veteran emcee, Guilty Simpson. Simpson and Lau gave listeners an initial taste of the EP with the title track, "The Mission", released late last year.
On "Yesterday", the melodious vocals of Fatima and Olivier Daysoul are preciously laden within a gleaming uptempo, providing a strong yet supple backbone to Simpson's razor sharp memories of growing up on the mean streets of Detroit. While Simpson's narrative is painfully sobering, Lau's beats illuminate the beauty of such a stark reality. Stream the track below and ready yourself for the EP's release on February 3.
