Mashup Monday – We're back again with some of the freshest mashes to start your week off right. These are the mashes that are worth hearing, so stop your searching and instead settle down at your computer… turn up your speakers… and get ready for that sweet nectar that only EARMILK can give ya. Let's GO.
I'm going to go on a little ramble for a bit highlighting an event that is occurring back where I'm from – Tuscaloosa, AL. AXE has teamed up with Girl Talk and are apparently touring select college towns. Luckily for the Crimson Tide fans, GT dropped by Rounder's Bar on The Strip. My good friend – Bruneaux – documented the event and let me know how it was. Knowing how much GT inspired Bruneaux, I was anxious to see what he said. And as always, GT didn't disappoint – with balloons falling from the ceiling, confetti being strewn all over the place, and his infamous toilet paper gun making an appearance. While Rounder's isn't the biggest venue, it reminded Bruneaux "of how Girl Talk got his start…playing at small intimate venues". GT's high-energy during his shows is contagious and he certainly displayed this with his continuous jumping up and down, while amping the crowd up with his music. Oh and Bruneaux drove all the way from Athens, Georgia (a good 5 hour drive) to see Girl Talk. I'm certain on the drive back, he was reliving the night of his life. Moral – if you have the chance to see an artist that you like…GET ON IT. Whether it be through the giveaways that Earmilk has, or you manage to snag a ticket…it'll be an experience you never forget.
With that being said, I have my own personal goal of seeing many of the artists that I post about live. Whether it be my final hoorah as a college-age person or my present to myself for joining the professional workforce…that is my plan. So for my first gig, I'd love to seeBasic Physics. Sure, he's up in Wisconsin but after listening to his new Winter Warmup EP, it's a no-brainer. His "Strength in Numbers" is absolutely stunning. Daft Punk sample is great, and I still have it blasting on my speakers. Oh and speaking of new songs…that guy (Bruneaux) that went to the Girl Talk show has graced me with a leak to his new album –Pure Magic. The intro track, "Can't Stop Me", is a vibrant assortment of samples – DMX, Nicki Minaj, Fat Joe are some of the vocal samples; Hanson, The Temptations, Hall & Oates are some of the instrumentals.
Other artists included in this week's Mashup Monday section isDubMashProductions, Klitormix, TeeTs, and more. Klitormix gives us a funky reggae vibe with a mash that includes the likes Robotic Pirate Monkeys, Kanye, Lupe, and Bob Marley. Easily a track that is going to be on repeat for days. Finally, another must download in my opinion is Mashup Germany's "Top of the Pops 2011". So smooth, so good, and easily reminds me of DJ Earworm. But take a listen to the tracks below and let me know what you think.
