Not going to lie. When I saw that yet ANOTHER Katy Perry song had been remixed this year, I almost skimmed past it. However, I'm a chick and because it's in my feminine nature, I hit play.
The beginning of the track is a bit predictable with emphasis on Ms. Perry's vocals. I yawn. But alas, about a minute in, the beat drops and suddenly I'm impressed. R3hab has done it again. To take a musical hammer to a top 40 hit and smash the living daylights out of it is not descriptive enough for this remix. I'm not saying that it's been butchered, I'm saying he's torn it up in the best way possible. R3hab's work puts a chainsaw-esque emphasis on songs, creating a totally new ear-opening sound. He's transformed the song into one of his own. In my opinion, he's done a bangin' job (no pun intended).
R3hab has exploded into the electro-house scene and is creating quite a following. He's been knocking it out of the park most recently with artists like Tiesto, David Guetta and Calvin Harris. I look forward to hearing his next release, as I'm a fan of any producer/DJ that can transform a mediocre song into something I can actually vibe with.
