Noob – Spell

Rarely do you come across a producer that juggles the art of making music that's fresh and forward thinking, yet not alienating to dance floors as well as Bordeaux's Noob does. The frequent Turbo Recordings and Boys Noize Records collaborator has turned to Sound Pellegrino for the release of his latest EP Spell.

The title track is a house meets garage jam with just enough snare to make you want to lose your shit in the classiest of ways.  A spaced out, almost Dam Funk like breakdown elevates nicely into the kick/snare driven drop.

For my favorite of the remixes, Noob turns to fellow countryman Zhao.  His monster acidic bassline is a perfect compliment to Noob's dreamy piano stabs adding a dark 3 am warehouse element to the package.  If you've slept on  Zhao his release Whatever with Matt Walsh and their remix of Murphy Jax's Time To Bump would both easily find their way into my top 10 songs of the year.

The other remix of Spell comes courtesy of Maelstrom.  His vocal chopping and booming 808 kicks give the track a Dirtybird esque ghetto booty bass vibe.  Definitely crate worthy in it's own right. For the B-side Protein, Noob turns to his roots with a squeaky distorted lead synth backed by an erratic bassline that reminds me so much of why I was such a fan of Powder off his last release.
