No. You're not in an opium den. You're just listening to Octdron. This is what I would call warm-wave (chill-wave for the winter), but that's probably just me going out on a limb and adding another pointless sub-genre to the blogosphere. Check out this debut release for just 50 cents on his Bandcamp page, and if you're looking for a slightly entertaining sci-fi short about the end of Switzerland, check out his eponymous blog. Ghostly vocals, disembodied guitar echoes, and angelic cooing…this is the type of music I'll be hearing from the dorm next to me this fall. I can just see Thumbsucker playing on some program housing porch, strumming away as the kid next to him sips on a beer shirtless. Of course, for all I know, Thumbsucker could be a fifty-year-old man who hasn't seen a campus in his life. Great music for just sitting on your stoop and letting the warm summer ennui take you away.
(P.S. In case you can't tell, I'm getting really excited to go off to Oberlin.)
