Suicide Sundaes - Week 79

Really hot thumbnail for this article post!

Suicide Sundaes - stop your grinnin' and drop your linen. Every Sunday, electblake of Earmilk will bring you the weeks dirty servings, and some old favorites through a throwdown-throwback to simpler times. A time when bangers were big, remixes were bigger, the bassline bled, and we didn't care about anything as long as came in kicking and left screaming. To hell with sketchy Sunday, we want to shove another dragon down the hole.

Why the delay? Well, I've been thinking. Lately I've been reconsidering the entire feature and it's purpose here. To be frank, originally I posted this in spite of the mainstream, in spite of what other djs thought of the young and turbulent (and oft simple) electro genre. But, I never intended this to be electro only (obviously).

And as I've seen our music change, I've wanted to change with it and bring this feature along for the ride. But, it doesn't look like many of you really want new music. I've heard that (at least the squeakiest of you) want trashy clipped out electro storms that tend to not lead anywhere in particular, which is all fine and dandy. Electro hit the fan ages ago, and has now expanded as a "new" genre to the second stage markets (small towns, random countries, and young/college kids). I want to move on though. So either you're with me - or not.

It's time to playhardball, I'm sorry. Next week I'm going to kick off a new series that I hope will give a more open base for me to pontificate from, or at least one without the hardfast fools who want everything to stay the same, they won't.

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more!

p.s. Feedback / Suggestions? Please reach out at facebook.com/electblake and drop me a message. but PLEASE don't send me full press releases about you're band (send those to [email protected]) I'd like SS commentary & suggestions only. Yes, these will be considerations for me moving forward with the new rumourous feature.

  • Suicide Sundaes is what really got me into electro, some of the best tracks I've heard were in your first ~40 posts, but haven't liked much recently. Change it up, everything's better remixed, Suicide Sundaes included.

    • :D THAT was the idea, and back then (which for the record, was a very long time ago) there was TONS of new electro. Nowadays, many electro producers have moved into new/progressive genres, dubstep, moombah, fidget/electro house etc.

I have a few blossoming genres that I want to expose you to now, just w/out the electro peanut gallery accusations of betrayal. There is more to dance then the hard and nasty, you can be dirty sexy ;)

    • Especially electro releases. Hardly are available for free/promo these days, and I won't post low qual rips et al.

  • You're so right, electro has gone wide. It's still good stuff but the genera ain't as interesting as it was in years past. Gotta move on or stagnate. Respect.

    • :D Was hoping people such as yourself would come forward. Thanks man - I considered mutating SS into something new but better we put it on hiatus (aka early retirement) until I find someone / some-sound that necessitates it re-birth.

  • Also what happened to the music player at the bottom of the site? I liked being able to listen to all the songs back to back.

  • Just wanted to say that this is a smart move. Like others said, back in the day when electro house was THE dance music genre everyone was looking towards, Suicide Sundaes was a fuggen gold-mine. Now, though? Sure, you find the occasional tune. But electro house is all but dead, and if someone wants to argue that point, it can't be argued its creativity levels peaked years ago. So, yeah, I think retiring Suicide Sundaes (at least as an electro house outlet) is a good idea. I can't wait for the new feature, please let it be a purple / wonky feature! I'll love you into infinity.

  • First time poster, long time listener. Amongst all this dissent I'll say that I'm a fan of your taste, Blake, as much as I am a fan of the electro sound. Whatever you move onto next I'll be sure to listen to. Thanks for doing the hard work these past few years. Much appreciated. Keen to see where this leads!

  • Same as a lot of the people, watched over S.S for a very long time, and fell in love with the early shit such as Haezer-Dominator, Belzebass-just dance (eternal september remix) and anything F.o.o.l. Lately it's been light but that's not your fault, the styles of these producers have changed and electro HAS gone wide. Unfortunately it's hard to find heavy shit with melody without delving into dubstep, but there are some promising prospects.

  • I find a lot of the hard electro producers are starting to stray into more other genres, while still using the electro influence. Look at Boys Noize and Erol Alkan for some great examples. Their shit pumps, but it's in a completely different way now. Evolution happens, I can't wait to see where your posts go now.

  • been following you since week 20 something, always up there for music finds.
I for one trust your judgement on music and agree electro and music in general is changing and am welcome to hear your solace in this new age of sounds.
Just please dont take the easy route to dubstep (eg skrillex)...
youve made it so far and would be gutted if i lost my extremely high respects for you. Even if you wanted to chuck in some slow dub or something would be cool but stick to dirty dance music thats not mechanical or over the top.
(kids at the bar and dem slackers are high up on the list for great tunes)
    still have high hopes !!
    love you bro

  • As always thanks for the great tracks electblake. Been following SS since week 20 and the beginning was incredible but recently has lacked a certain oomph. You are making the right decision in expanding and looking into new genres. Electro house has left its roots and evolved into something deeper. Glad earmilk always gets it right and is looking to the future of amazing music.

  • Blake you really redeemed yourself this weak and bumped up expectations. My chief complaint before was that a lot of the material was old, recycled, or lacking novelty (specifically between week 75ish and 78). As for the new direction electro is taking I am fine with it, you should be natural with posting and I think you really did that this weak bringing out some fresh dairy and unique beats. This week was a whole new, different, enjoyable delivery, week 79 stands out. As always I appreciate the material.
